More Than 100 New Georgia Laws Take Effect July 1: Here’s What Residents Need to Know

0

Georgia residents will see a wide range of new laws take effect on July 1, 2026, as more than 100 pieces of legislation officially become law. The changes impact everything from education and public safety to consumer protections, healthcare, transportation and state government funding. While not every law will affect every resident, several measures are expected to have a broad impact across the state.

Among the most notable changes are stronger protections for service dogs, including increased penalties for anyone who harms or interferes with a working service animal. The new law also makes it illegal to knowingly misrepresent a pet as a service dog. Additional legislation includes consumer protection measures aimed at reducing fraud, updates affecting schools and public safety, changes to healthcare regulations, and funding through Georgia’s Fiscal Year 2027 state budget, which begins July 1. Other new laws address issues ranging from financial crime prevention to protections for homeowners and vulnerable adults.

State officials encourage Georgians to familiarize themselves with the new laws, as many take effect immediately on July 1. Residents can expect these legislative changes to influence daily life in areas such as education, public services, healthcare, consumer rights and law enforcement as Georgia begins its new fiscal year.
