— Music legend Lionel Richie was hospitalized following a weekend performance in St. Louis, marking the second reported health scare for the 77-year-old singer during his current tour.
Richie performed Saturday, August 29, at The Muny in Forest Park. Toward the end of the concert, attendees noticed the singer appeared to be having difficulty and requested a chair while performing his final song of the night, “All Night Long.”
Following the performance, Richie checked himself into a local hospital as a precaution and was admitted to the intensive care unit while doctors conducted tests. Reports indicate doctors were looking into possible mild dehydration, though Richie’s representatives have not publicly announced an official diagnosis.
A source close to Richie’s tour told Us Weekly that the singer wanted to get checked out but was doing OK. Reports indicated he was hoping to leave the hospital as early as Tuesday.
The hospitalization comes just over two months after Richie experienced another health issue during a June 24 concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. During that show, Richie told the audience he was feeling dizzy and eventually ended his performance early. The incident resulted in the postponement of concerts in Chicago and Columbus while doctors advised him to rest.
Richie returned to the stage several days later and subsequently reassured fans that he was doing well.
As of September 1, no changes have been announced to Richie’s upcoming tour schedule because of his latest hospitalization. His next scheduled performance with Earth, Wind & Fire is September 26 in San Francisco.
The latest development has sparked concern among fans, but available reports indicate Richie entered the hospital as a precaution while doctors evaluate his condition.
