ATLANTA, GA — South Atlanta High School is expanding support for students and their families with the opening of a new food pantry located directly on the school campus.
The pantry was created through a partnership between South Atlanta High School, Kroger, MUST Ministries and other community partners. The goal is to make nutritious groceries more accessible to families who may be dealing with food insecurity.
Organizers expect the new location to provide assistance to approximately 150 families every month.
By placing the pantry inside the school, families can access food in a familiar and convenient location while students receive additional support beyond the classroom.
The South Atlanta location is also part of a larger effort to establish school-based food pantries throughout metro Atlanta. Kroger and its vendor partners have contributed more than $428,000 over the past three years to support MUST Ministries’ Neighborhood Pantry program.
That support has helped establish six new school pantries serving communities in Cobb, Cherokee and Fulton counties, with additional locations expected in the future.
The initiative is designed to address a challenge that can directly affect students’ ability to succeed in school. Providing reliable access to groceries can help families stretch household budgets while allowing students to focus more on learning.
For South Atlanta High School, the new pantry adds another community resource aimed at supporting students and their families where they already spend much of their time — at school.
