ATLANTA, GA — MARTA is moving closer to selecting its next permanent leader after narrowing its search for a new general manager and CEO to three finalists.
The candidates under consideration are Jonathan Hunt, who is currently serving as MARTA’s interim general manager and CEO; Cleveland Ferguson III, an executive with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority; and Leroy Jones, an executive with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. MARTA’s board has interviewed all three candidates as it works toward making a final selection.
A decision could come as soon as Thursday, when the MARTA Board of Directors is expected to meet and potentially announce the agency’s next permanent general manager and CEO.
The person selected will take on one of the Atlanta region’s most important transportation leadership positions, overseeing MARTA’s bus and rail operations while helping guide future projects, system improvements and expansion efforts across metro Atlanta.
Hunt has been leading the transit agency on an interim basis following the departure of former CEO Collie Greenwood.
With MARTA playing a major role in how residents and visitors move throughout the Atlanta area, the upcoming leadership decision could have a significant impact on the transit system’s direction in the years ahead.
