Georgia Runoff Elections Set the Stage for High-Stakes November Showdowns

0

Georgia voters headed to the polls for the 2026 primary runoff elections, deciding several key statewide and local races that will shape November’s general election ballot. The most closely watched contests included the Republican races for governor and U.S. Senate, along with several statewide constitutional offices and local government positions.

In the Republican governor’s runoff, healthcare executive Rick Jackson defeated Lt. Gov. Burt Jones to secure the GOP nomination. Jackson will now face former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in November. Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Mike Collins won the Republican Senate runoff, earning the right to challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff in one of the nation’s most closely watched Senate races.

Several other statewide races were also decided, including nominations for lieutenant governor, secretary of state, labor commissioner, insurance commissioner, and Public Service Commission. In Fulton County, former commissioner Mo Ivory defeated incumbent Robb Pitts in the Democratic runoff for county commission chair, setting up another key local race this fall. With the primary season now complete, attention shifts toward November, where Georgia is expected to once again play a major role in determining the balance of power both statewide and nationally.
