FAYETTE COUNTY, GA — Families looking to add a four-legged member to their household have an opportunity to adopt for free as the Fayette County Animal Shelter works to create much-needed space.
The shelter is waiving all dog adoption fees through Labor Day as its kennels have reached full capacity. The special promotion began August 21 and is designed to help more dogs find permanent homes while opening space for animals that may arrive at the facility in the coming days.
Shelter officials are encouraging residents who have already been considering adoption to visit during the promotion. Every successful adoption not only provides a dog with a new home but also creates an available kennel for another animal that may need shelter and care.
Normally, Fayette County lists dog adoption fees of $40 or $50, depending on whether the animal was already spayed or neutered before arriving at the shelter. Animals adopted through the county receive important services before leaving, including spaying or neutering, vaccinations and a microchip.
The temporary fee waiver comes as animal shelters across the region continue working to manage available space and connect homeless pets with families.
Anyone interested in adopting is encouraged to visit the Fayette County Animal Shelter and meet the dogs currently waiting for homes. The free dog adoption promotion runs through Labor Day, giving metro Atlanta residents a limited-time opportunity to welcome a new pet while helping relieve overcrowding at the shelter.
