ATLANTA, GA — The FIFA World Cup has officially arrived, and Atlanta is already buzzing with excitement as thousands of soccer fans gather across the city for a series of events leading up to Atlanta’s first tournament match next week. The centerpiece of the celebration is the FIFA Fan Festival at Centennial Olympic Park, which opened today and is serving as the city’s official World Cup gathering location throughout the tournament. Fans can watch matches on giant screens, enjoy live entertainment, interactive experiences, food vendors, family activities, and special performances from artists with Atlanta ties. Admission is free with advance registration.
City leaders expect hundreds of thousands of visitors to travel to Atlanta during the tournament, making it one of the busiest tourism periods in the city’s history. In addition to the Fan Festival, watch parties, community soccer celebrations, and cultural events are taking place throughout metro Atlanta. The Atlanta Beltline, downtown entertainment districts, and local venues are hosting soccer-themed activations designed to showcase the city’s culture while welcoming fans from around the world. Atlanta will host eight World Cup matches, including a semifinal, further cementing its role as one of the premier host cities in North America.
The excitement is only beginning. Atlanta’s first World Cup match is scheduled for June 15, and organizers are encouraging fans to arrive early for events, utilize MARTA and public transportation, and take advantage of the many free celebrations taking place across the city. With live music, international soccer, community events, and a global spotlight shining on Georgia’s capital, Atlanta is embracing what many are calling the biggest sporting event the city has ever hosted.
