Atlanta hip-hop legend Big Boi is stepping into the film world once again as an executive producer on a new documentary focused on the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. The upcoming project, titled We Ran The City, will explore the city’s transformation leading up to the Summer Olympics and the cultural impact the Games had on Atlanta.

According to reports, the documentary will take a deeper look at how Atlanta evolved during the 1990s as the city prepared to host the Centennial Olympic Games. The film is expected to highlight Atlanta’s rise in music, culture, business, and global recognition during that era, while also examining how the Olympics reshaped neighborhoods and communities throughout the city.

The 1996 Summer Olympics remain one of the biggest moments in Atlanta history, bringing athletes and visitors from around the world to Georgia. The Games helped cement Atlanta’s reputation as an international city and introduced millions of viewers globally to the city’s growing influence in sports, entertainment, and Southern culture.

The documentary announcement comes at a major moment for Atlanta sports and culture, as the city prepares to host matches during the FIFA World Cup 2026. Many see the project as a timely reflection on Atlanta’s previous experience hosting one of the world’s largest international sporting events.

Big Boi, one-half of the legendary rap duo Outkast, has long been recognized as one of Atlanta’s most influential cultural figures. Through music, television, film, and community involvement, he has continued to help shape the city’s identity both locally and globally.

At this time, We Ran The City does not have an official release date.
