Amazon Exploring Drone Delivery Expansion Across Metro Atlanta

0

Amazon is looking to bring its growing Prime Air drone delivery service to metro Atlanta, signaling another major step toward faster same-day shipping across Georgia. The company confirmed to WSB-TV that it is actively exploring opportunities to expand drone operations throughout the Atlanta area.

According to Amazon spokesperson Cait Freda, company representatives are already beginning discussions with local officials as they evaluate potential locations and logistics for the expansion. The move would bring Amazon’s drone delivery program closer to one of the nation’s busiest metro areas and one of the company’s largest regional customer bases.

Amazon’s Prime Air program currently operates in parts of Texas, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, and Michigan, where customers can receive certain packages by drone in as little as 30 minutes. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently announced the company’s long-term goal of serving 30 million customers through drone delivery by the end of 2026, while aiming to deliver as many as 500 million packages annually through Prime Air by 2030.

The announcement comes as drone delivery services continue expanding throughout metro Atlanta. Walmart and Wing, Google’s drone delivery partner, already operate drone programs in several Georgia cities including Atlanta, Conyers, Loganville, Woodstock, Hiram, and McDonough. However, some metro communities have pushed back against the technology over concerns involving noise, safety, and property values.

Amazon has not announced an official launch timeline or specific metro Atlanta locations for the service, but the company says it is continuing to work with local leaders as discussions move forward.
