Georgia Schools Adjust Schedules for Tuesday as Winter Storm Aftermath Continues

0

Across Georgia, the effects of the weekend winter ice storm are still shaping school schedules for Tuesday, January 27, as districts respond to lingering hazardous conditions. While many school systems are beginning to resume in-person classes, others are continuing closures, shifting to virtual learning, or delaying the start of the day to ensure safety for students and staff.

Officials say the storm left behind icy roads and dangerous travel conditions in parts of north Georgia, prompting some districts to keep campuses closed or move instruction online. Several counties — particularly in more heavily impacted areas — opted to cancel classes entirely or hold virtual learning days to avoid putting buses and families on icy roads.

Among the districts adjusting schedules:

  • Banks County, Clarke County, Rabun County, Union County, and White County schools remain closed for safety reasons.

  • Others including Buford City, Dawson County, Fannin County, Gainesville City, Hall County, and Pickens County are conducting virtual learning for the day.

  • Some districts like Gilmer, Forsyth, and Polk Counties are delaying the school day by two hours due to lingering travel concerns.

The mix of closures, remote instruction, and delayed openings reflects the ongoing challenge of returning to normal after a significant winter storm. Parents and students are encouraged to continue checking local district announcements as weather and road conditions evolve throughout the day.
