DEKALB COUNTY, GA — Residents of DeKalb County came together this week in a powerful show of unity and support as a group of Buddhist monks passed through the region as part of their cross-country Walk for Peace, a 2,300-mile pilgrimage aimed at promoting peace, compassion, mindfulness and healing. The walk — which began on Oct. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas and will end at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. in February 2026 — has drawn increasing attention and community participation as the monks make their way through Georgia. In DeKalb County, the City of Decatur hosted a Peace Gathering on December 30, inviting locals, civic leaders, and officials to greet the pilgrims and take part in reflections on peace and compassion.
