Publix Recalls Frozen Blueberries After 12 Confirmed E. coli Cases

0

Publix is urging customers to check their freezers after issuing a recall for a specific lot of GreenWise Organic IQF Frozen Blueberries following an investigation into 12 confirmed cases of E. coli-related illness. The recall affects 10-ounce bags with lot code 60401 and a best-by date of February 9, 2028. The product was sold at Publix stores across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

According to Publix, the recalled blueberries have been linked to illnesses reported between May 11 and June 5, 2026. While only one production lot is included in the official recall, the grocery chain is advising customers to return or discard any GreenWise frozen blueberries purchased on or before July 3, 2026 as a precaution. Consumers should not eat the affected product and may return it to any Publix location for a full refund.

Health officials say E. coli infections can cause symptoms including severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, and, in some cases, more serious complications—particularly for young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. The recall was initiated by the product’s supplier, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., after investigators connected the affected blueberries to the reported illnesses.
