THE KING OF POP IS STILL ALIVE YOU SAY?

The Michael Jackson tour, formerly known as Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough Tour, will begin previews at the Neil Simon Theatre. Opening night will occur on  Thursday, August 13. The casting has still not been announced.

With the dates confirmed now, a spokesman has said the new title is a “better and stronger choice than relying on the title of anyone individual song”. Jackson’s musical takes a bigger step closer to a Broadway trip that became the subject of a lot of chatter and even skepticism after an early Broadway engagement in Chicago was canceled.

The new musical will consist of a new book by  Lynn Nottage and a score made up of many of Jackson’s award-winning songs. The musical is currently in development at studios in New York City. Tickets go on sale Jan. 15.

While the changes are being made in the still-developing production is unknown, early descriptions of the Jackson jukebox explained that the show will show Jackson and his collaborators as they rehearse for the 1992 Dangerous Tour. The musical is not expected to focus on Jackson’s personal life, director Wheeldon told the Chicago Tribune that the musical is intended to be “a portrait of the artist”.

A lifelike Michael’s was so rich and troubled at the same time. But there were these moments of great lightness. We are interested in celebrating Michael, and in breaking what happened in his life.
