YOU CAN’T ALWAYS PRAY THINGS AWAY Returning to her hometown in Washington D.C., Taraji speaks out on the importance of mental health in the black community after voicing her struggles with anxiety and depression. The Empire actress spoke to the Congressional Black Caucus Emergency Taskforce on Black Youth Suicide and Mental Health on behalf of her foundation: The Borris Lawerence Henson Foundation (named after her late father). After having to cope with multiple tragedies in her life, she said finding someone to help her and her family cope was like finding a unicorn. “In the African American community, we don’t deal with Mental Health issues. We don’t even talk about it. We have been taught to pray our problems away.  We have been demonized for coming out and saying we have issues. And we have trust issues.”, Taraji stated. She admits to not knowing exactly how to fix the problem but understands that there is a rise in suicide and the ages committing suicide are becoming younger and younger. The Borris Lawerence Henson Foundation will host its first “Can We Talk’ Campaign in Washington D.C. Durning, this campaign, the actress plans to host a summit this weekend in hopes of raising 500,000 dollars for children who desire to attend therapy for the first time.
