Remembering Malcolm X 54 years later

Today marks the 54th anniversary of the death of El-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, better known as Malcolm X, who was gunned down as he delivered a speech in Manhattan, New York’s Audobon Ballroom on February 21, 1965. Many of his supporters are on social media sharing his quotes and conveying their appreciativeness for his continuing legacy.

Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Martin Luther King Jr. recently made a tweet saying “54 years ago today, Malcolm X was assassinated. I’m holding his daughters close to my heart and praying for their strength. Love to you, my friend, @ilyasahShabazz.”

Ilyasah Shabazz, the third daughter of Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz, also wrote on twitter stating “On this day February 21,1965, Malcolm was gunned down. Today we’re discovering his sincerity and the issues he addressed then are still so very prevalent 54 years later.”

Malcolm was one of the most influential black Muslim Americans who fought against racism in the U.S. during the 1960s. #RIPMalcolmX
