Do you accept their apology or should we boycott Burberry as well?

Many fashion designers have been facing backlash such as Gucci, Prada, and Moncler, just to name a few. Now Burberry is the most recent fashion brand to face backlash for one of their designs.

According to CNN, the hoodie design hit the runway during London Fashion Week but Burberry immediately removed the design after one of their models issued a complaint.

The model who wore the hoodie, Liz Kennedy, took to Instagram to discuss her complaints on the design saying “Suicide is not fashion. It is not glamorous nor edgy and since the show is dedicated to the youth expressing their voice, here I go.” She went on to say, “Ricardo Tisci and everyone at Burberry it is beyond me how you could let a look resembling a noose hanging from a neck out on the runway. How could anyone overlook this and think it would be okay to do this especially in a line dedicated to young girls and youth.”

Kennedy went on to say how the hoodie plays on the historical racial violence against Black people. “There are hundreds of ways to tie a rope and they chose to tie it like a noose completely ignoring the fact that it was hanging around a neck.

Burberry Chief Executive Officer, Marco Gobetti, stated in his apology, “We are deeply sorry for the distress caused by one of the products that featured in our A/W 2019 runway collection. Though the design was inspired by the marine theme that ran throughout the collection, it was insensitive and we made a mistake.”
