Legendary singer Aretha Franklin is in serious medical condition and surrounded by her family in a Detroit hospital, according to reports. The 76-year-old singer, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, was performing as recently as last year — until she announced she’d be stepping down from the stage. “I must tell you, I am retiring this year,” Franklin said in an interview in February 2017. “I feel very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from, and where it is now.” Unfortunately, reporter Harry Hairston stated that he “Spoke with a close friend of Aretha Franklin and family, and she is not doing well. Let’s keep Ms. Aretha Franklin in our prayers!!
