BART’s MacArthur station in Oakland re-opened on Monday morning, hours after a seemingly random attack on two passengers left a young woman dead and her sister hospitalized.

Nia Wilson, 18, was getting off  the second car of a six-car Warm Springs-bound train Sunday night when the attack occurred.

Oakland Police have described the attack as apparently random in nature. The assailant was last seen fleeing into the neighborhood near the MacArthur station.

On Monday morning, BART spokesman Jim Allison said, “Police have train video and station video and other identifying material and they are following those leads right now.”

The attacker was described as a heavyset white man in his 20’s or 30’s with short hair.

The incident occurred about three months after another stabbing attack at an East Bay BART station left riders shaken. That attack occurred at the Coliseum station on the afternoon of the Warriors’ final regular-season home game. Three people were injured and a San Francisco man was arrested.
