“WE NEEDED A FRESH LOOK AT OUR LEADERSHIP”
Atlanta’s mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms held a news conference Tuesday, one day after asking her entire cabinet to resign.
Keisha Lance Bottoms spoke about the reasoning behind her decision.
On Monday, Bottoms told 26 top city officials that she wanted their resignation letters by the end of that day. Mayor Bottoms now plans to talk with each of them this week and decide whose resignations she will accept or decline.
Bottoms said Tuesday,
“There will be resignations that I will not accept. We needed a fresh look at our leadership as a whole. This is the right opportunity for us to reassess where we are. Change is sometimes uncomfortable but often necessary, I think it’s important for me to establish my team, and I think it’s important for the public to know that the team going forward is a team that I selected, not inherited. I really believe it is about having the right people on the bus and then figuring out the right seat for them,” she said.
Bottoms did not say whether an online FBI investigation is on the way as one of her reason behind her decision, but did address the impact the investigation has had on the city.
