Queen Latifah’s mother, Rita Owens, dies from a chronic heart condition.
The Queen of Rap, Dana Owens, announced on Wednesday that her mother had taken her last breath. She explains how her mother has been battling with a severe heart condition for more than a decade. She released a statement saying “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news, my mother, Rita Owens passed away today…Anyone that has ever met her knows what a bright light she was on this earth. She was gentle, but strong, sweet, but sassy, worldly but pragmatic, a woman of great faith and certainly the love of my life.”
Her mother previously had a defibrillator placed in her chest to prevent heart attacks, as well as taking medications to balance her new strict diet of low salts and fats. Heart failure is a chronic but progressive condition. It is a ailment that prevents the the blood from pumping efficiently through the body. Although the rapper is heartbroken, she leaves last words for her mother “She has struggled with a heart condition for many years and her battle now over..I am heartbroken but now she is at peace. Thank you for your kindness, support, and respect for our privacy at this time. Much Love, Dana Owens (Queen Latifah), forever Rita Owens’ daughter.’
