{STREETZ MORNING TAKEOVER} GA TECH STUDENT FATALLY SHOT

WAS SHOOTING THE ONLY OPTION??Late Saturday night, around 11:17 pm, a fourth year computer engineering student was fatally shot by Georgia Tech Police.

Scout Schultz (age 21) was said to be seen near the 8th street dorm armed with a knife and a gun.

When GA Tech Police arrived to the scene, they found Schultz holding a knife, which they attempted to get him to drop.

Schultz continued to advance on the police with the knife, and one of the officers fired. He was transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Family members of Schultz are wondering why campus police did not use non-lethal methods to detain him. They also pointed out that Schultz was a mentally impaired student, and that the police should have been trained to deal with such a subject.

What do you think Atlanta?? Should the GA Tech Campus Police have taken a different approach in detaining Schultz, especially with him being a student, or did they make the right move in taking that shot as he was approaching with the knife?
