Typhoon Hato has ravaged through China the past few days leaving an estimated 16 dead following Thursday’s report. According to the Xinhua News Agency, China’s official news outlet, 27,000 people were evacuated to emergency shelters. Macau and the surrounding region were without power as the typhoon caused major outages with roughly 2 million people losing power at least temporarily. As Wu Zhifang, chief weather forecaster at the Guangdong meteorological bureau puts it, “Compared to other typhoons, Hato moved fast, quickly grew more powerful and caused massive amounts of rainfall.
