ATLANTA, GA — One of the music industry’s most influential executives is placing renewed attention on Atlanta’s entertainment scene as Ethiopia Habtemariam helps lead a new chapter of growth at HYBE America.
Habtemariam, the former chairwoman and CEO of Motown Records, was appointed president of music at HYBE America in January 2026, marking a major return to a prominent industry leadership position.
Her role includes overseeing music development initiatives, discovering emerging talent, and helping expand the company’s influence across multiple genres and markets.
A major focus of that strategy involves Atlanta, a city that has shaped the sound of modern hip-hop and R&B for decades.
Habtemariam has longstanding connections to Atlanta’s music community and has played an important role in developing artists, songwriters, and creative partnerships throughout her career.
Before joining HYBE America, she held several leadership positions within Universal Music Group, including serving as president of Motown Records before being named chairwoman and CEO.
Her experience includes working with artists and industry professionals across hip-hop, R&B, and popular music.
At HYBE America, Habtemariam is expected to help strengthen the company’s artist development strategy while identifying opportunities for collaboration and long-term business growth.
Her responsibilities also include supporting the company’s expansion in Atlanta and its relationship with Quality Control, the influential Atlanta-based record label acquired by HYBE in 2023.
Quality Control has helped shape the careers of several major hip-hop artists and has become one of the most recognizable brands in Atlanta’s music industry.
Habtemariam’s leadership could create additional opportunities for emerging artists, producers, songwriters, and music entrepreneurs seeking to establish careers in the entertainment business.
Her appointment also highlights the increasing importance of Atlanta within the global music marketplace.
While cities such as Los Angeles and New York remain major entertainment centers, Atlanta continues to attract investment and attention because of its creative talent and influence on contemporary music.
For aspiring artists and industry professionals throughout Georgia, HYBE America’s expanding presence represents another potential pathway into the music business.
As Habtemariam continues building the company’s music operations, Atlanta is positioned to remain an important part of its growth strategy.
