On this day in 1955, the very first Waffle House opened its doors in Avondale Estates, Georgia. Founded by neighbors Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner, the diner became famous for being open 24/7 and serving up those iconic scattered, smothered, and covered hashbrowns.

What started as one small spot has now grown into 1,700+ locations across 25 states, making it not just a Georgia classic, but a true American staple.

From 40-cent waffles to $1.50 filet mignon back in the day, Waffle House has been fueling late nights, road trips, and family breakfasts for 70 years straight.
