Italian fashion legend Giorgio Armani has passed away at the age of 91, his fashion house confirmed. Known for redefining elegance and creating the modern power suit, Armani built a multibillion-dollar empire spanning clothing, accessories, fragrances, home goods, and even restaurants and a basketball team.
From his iconic unlined jackets and minimalist suits to Hollywood red carpet gowns, Armani’s influence shaped both menswear and womenswear for decades. His designs became synonymous with understated sophistication, dressing everyone from Richard Gere in American Gigolo to Oscar winners and global celebrities.
Armani began his career in Milan, launching his first menswear line in 1975 with partner Sergio Galeotti. Over 50 years, he grew the brand into a worldwide empire with more than 600 stores, all while staying true to his philosophy: practical, timeless fashion for real people.
Beyond fashion, Armani was a philanthropist and a U.N. goodwill ambassador for refugees, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the runway.
He is survived by his niece Silvana Armani, who played a key role in his fashion empire.
