Dekalb County-
Outdoor dining in Avondale Estates will now come with new rules. City leaders voted to require restaurants, cafes, and bars to apply for permits before placing tables and chairs on sidewalks.
Officials say the move balances the city’s growing dining scene with pedestrian safety, while also giving businesses a clear process to expand service outdoors. Permits will cover design, spacing, and safety standards, with fees set by the city manager.
The ordinance, signed by Mayor Jonathan Elmore, also bans smoking near sidewalk dining areas but allows alcohol service for restaurants already licensed to sell it.
