Drivers across Georgia are being warned to slow down as law enforcement agencies launch the annual Operation Southern Slow Down traffic safety campaign. Running July 13–19, the multi-state initiative includes Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and Tennessee, with officers increasing patrols to target speeding, aggressive driving, distracted driving, and other dangerous traffic violations.
Last year’s campaign resulted in more than 52,000 speeding citations and warnings across the Southeast, including over 13,000 speeding stops in Georgia alone. Highway safety officials say the goal is to reduce crashes and save lives during one of the busiest travel periods of the summer. Motorists are also reminded to buckle up, obey speed limits, and follow Georgia’s Move Over Law when approaching emergency vehicles.
