Gov. Brian Kemp Declares State of Emergency Across Georgia Ahead of Winter Storm Threat

0

As Georgia prepares for a potentially dangerous winter weather system, Governor Brian Kemp has issued a statewide State of Emergency for all counties, urging residents to take the threat seriously and prepare now.

According to the announcement, the executive order was shared during a Thursday morning briefing and will remain in effect through Monday, allowing the state to activate emergency operations and quickly shift resources where they’re needed most.

The declaration also gives the governor the ability to deploy the Georgia National Guard if conditions worsen or emergency response support is required.

Weather officials are closely monitoring areas at risk, with concerns rising over freezing rain and dangerous icing, which can lead to slick roadways, travel disruptions, and widespread power outages. Residents across the metro area are being encouraged to prepare early, even if their county is not currently under a weather watch.

Officials say the situation is still developing, and Georgians should remain alert for updated forecasts as the storm approaches.
