The worst-case scenario for Atlanta United star defender and team captain Miles Robinson came true when it was announced Monday morning that he had ruptured the Achilles tendon in his left leg during the teams 4-1 win over Chicago Fire FC Saturday night. The club said Robinson will have surgery on the damaged tendon Monday afternoon. Robinson crumbled to the ground during the first half of Saturday nights match and had to be helped to the sideline. He’s the third Atlanta United player to suffer an Achilles injury this season. The 25-year-old defender is also one of the top players on the U.S. Men’s Soccer National Team and was expected to be one of the primary players for the upcoming World Cup later this year. Atlanta United has a match scheduled for May 11 in Nashville versus Nashville SC. The match is part of the U.S. Open Cup Round of 32. The team will be back in Atlanta to play the New England Revolution at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15.
