On Thursday, Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms delivered her second annual State of the City address where she made promises regarding better transportation and affordable housing throughout the city.

Bottoms announced that the City of Atlanta will create a Department of Transportation to consolidate all departments involved with the planning and construction of the city’s roadways. “All of these departments do a good job, but to do a great job they need to operate from the same playbook,” said Mayor Bottoms.

Mayor Bottoms also announced a new goal of producing and preserving 20,000 units of affordable housing by 2026.“In our first year in office, we have already invested $100 million in public funds to create thousands of units of affordable housing,” said Mayor Bottoms.

Mayor Bottoms also announced the formation of the Atlanta Children’s Memorial Commission, which is a group that will geared toward exploring ways to create lasting ways to remember the victims of the Atlanta Child Murders.

The State of the City was held at the Georgia World Congress Center. A special breakfast took place beforehand, hosted by the Coca-Cola Company and the Atlanta Committee for Progress.
