COCAINE WORTH 1.3 MILLION

A traffic stop led police to find more than $1.3 million worth of cocaine in Sandy Springs.

An indictment details how police pulled over Ernest Ortuno-Hernandez on June 26 that police found.

Police said they stopped him because he was following another car too closely, but court records show officers had already been watching the man for days and ready to make their move.

According to the document, a K-9 first alerted officers to a positive drug alert during the traffic stop on GA-400 near Hammond Drive. After searching the vehicle, police said they found three kilos of cocaine hidden in a Belvita cracker box.

The discovery led police to the suspect’s apartment off Holcomb Bridge Road where they said they found 20 kilos of cocaine concealed in a bathroom air vent.

Investigators also found an additional 20 kilograms in another vehicle parked outside the home.

Hernandez is being held without bond while investigators try to figure out where the drugs were going.
