A contraceptive pill for men is a step closer to approval after early trials of a once-daily pill showed it to be safe and effective, according to researchers.
The pill reportedly has some of the same side effects of the female contraceptive pill. It causes weight gain, acne, muscle aches, etc.
The new pill is known as DMAU for it’s chemical name which is, dimethandrolone undecanoate. It contains a combination of hormones an androgen, like testosterone, and progestin. If the pill is taken daily, it is said that it will reduce male’s sperm count low enough for him not to get his partner pregnant.
Page’s team tested 100 male volunteers and received good results from 82 of them. There were also no major side effects with the exception of low testosterone levels.
