A Georgia woman missed Thanksgiving after she was escorted off a plane from Delta airlines.

Atlanta! a georgia women by the name of Stephanie Ung was recently detained by airport agents who thought she and a friend were human trafficking victims. In an interview Ung stated that she was returning from a celebration in cancun when she was told to get off the plane while arriving at Hartsfield airport. “I just kept telling them that I wanted to go home for my family Thanksgiving dinner, and that they were making me late, but they just didn’t care, They just laughed.”

According to the police agent Brian Johnston, Atlanta is known for human sex trafficking. “The same reasons we enjoy living and working and being in this area, are the same reasons that attract both the demand and supply side of human trafficking.” That reasoning may be different in Ung’s eyes because she believes they stopped her because she’s a smaller woman and her race.“Honestly, I think it’s just the fact that I’m Asian, my friend was Asian and we’re two little girls on the plane,i guess that looks like a red flag for everyone.”

When situations like being profiled arise thats when people become paranoid of being themselves. Ung knew about human trafficking in the Asian-American community but still felt shook about what the airlines made her do. “My hands are still trembling from my memory going back to this night because this wasn’t a nightmare, it was my reality.”

Delta made a statement regarding this issue by stating “While our investigation did show that our customers were not being trafficked, we train our crew members to remain alert and use their professional experience and practice best judgment to ensure the safety of all customers. Thousands of our flight attendants are trained to look out for signs of possible trafficking and on the  recent Delta flight from Cancun, two customers were observed by another customer as possible victims of a human trafficking event.”
