Emory Hospital denies a child from surgery due to his father being on probation!

Atlanta – A 2 year old child by the name of A.J. Burgess was born a month too early with a weak kidney. A.J. ‘s mother has been trying to help him get better by taking him to the hospital to get a kidney transplant. So when the mother was looking for a donor A.J.’s father was the one to step up. A.J.’s father was previously incarcerated a while back in October but stated that when he was released he would donate his kidney to his son.

That news sounded all good when released until Emory Hospital stated that they will not proceed with this child’s transplant because his father violated his probation.

Carmella Burgess (A.J.’s Mother) and Anthony Dickerson (A.J.’s Father) was told that their child would be denied a transplant due to his father even though Dickerson was told from officials that he is a 110% match for his son.

As of now A.J. weighs 25 pounds at 2 years old and has spent the last 10 months in intensive unit care.
When Dickerson was released from prison (the first time) he was told that he was able to go through the steps to donate his kidney on Oct. 3. Dickerson sadly, ended up returning back to jail months later for violating his parole again with carrying a possession of a firearm/knife.

Carmella Burgess states that the Surgeon At Emory Hospital told Dickerson “We need your parole information and your probation info”. When Anthony Dickerson responded why? She responded “We need you to be on good behavior for 3-4 months before you can give your son the kidney. And when we get close to January 2018 we will think about re-evaluating you”.

Emory Hospital has now released a statement responding to this situation by saying “Emory Healthcare is committed to the highest quality of care for its patients. Guidelines for organ transplantation are designed to maximize the chance of success for organ recipients and minimize risk for living donors.”
With Emory wanting to wait 3-4 months before re-evaluating his father, It could be too late for A.J. toddler and his health continues to get worse. A.J.’s body is failing and he needs bladder surgery.”
AJ.’s mother made a GoFundMe page and hopes that it will bring awareness to the family’s predicament and provide funds for financial stability.
