{STREETZ MORNING TAKEOVER} Hurricane Maria- Puerto Rico!

Atlanta- If you haven’t been keeping up with the hurricane updates, lets catch up now!

Hurricane Maria recently just passed through Puerto Rico, through the Dominican Republic, and is now heading towards the Caribbean Turks and Caicos islands! According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Maria is now a Category 3 hurricane with winds of 115 mph. Maria is also in SOS mode and has issued a Flash Flood Warning for residents in Puerto Rico asking everyone to evacuate and find shelter.

According to the Gov. of Puerto Rico, Ricardo Rossello states that power is out for everyone right now and they could be out of power for months! Rossello imposed a new rule to everyone for all residents to be inside from 6 PM – 6 AM.  Rossello says its important to keep the streets clear for repair and rescue teams.

Local news have reported that 245 are dead so far and will continue to update as more people are being found. The island is completely hectic as they try to re-gain order for the island. Emergency Management Director of Puerto Rico Abner Gómez Cortés states to residents “Once we’re able to go outside, were going to find our island destroyed. Best case scenario is that the storm could skirt off the island 40-50 miles to the east.
