ATLANTA, GA — A business relationship that helped produce some of the biggest records of the 2000s is now at the center of a legal dispute in Georgia.
Grammy-winning artist T-Pain has filed a lawsuit against Konvict Entertainment, the record label co-founded by Akon, alleging that the company owes him nearly $500,000 in unpaid royalties.
The lawsuit was filed in Fulton County Superior Court in September.
According to the complaint, T-Pain alleges that Konvict owes him approximately $489,047 from a royalty payment the label received from distributor Zomba Recordings earlier this year.
The dispute traces back to T-Pain’s recording agreement with Konvict, which began in 2005.
That partnership helped launch T-Pain into mainstream music success during a run that produced hit records and albums including Rappa Ternt Sanga, Epiphany and Three Ringz.
According to the lawsuit, T-Pain’s representatives made attempts to obtain the money they say is owed before taking the matter to court.
This isn’t the first legal dispute between T-Pain and the company. He previously filed a separate lawsuit against Konvict in 2018.
The latest allegations remain claims in a civil lawsuit and have not been established as fact by a final court ruling.
