ATLANTA — Young Thug recently spent time giving back to young people in his hometown, using food, conversation and his own life experiences to deliver an important message.
The Grammy-winning Atlanta rapper sponsored a cookout for teens and young men involved with the Next Level Boys Academy, a mentorship organization that works with youth who have had involvement with the criminal justice system. Some participants attend the program through court orders.
The gathering also welcomed participants’ families, with hamburgers and hot dogs served while Young Thug spent time talking directly with the group.
During the event, Thug reflected on his own legal troubles and encouraged the young men to avoid decisions that could lead to incarceration or violence. He specifically warned about the consequences of guns and encouraged the group to strengthen their faith.
The message carried additional weight because of the rapper’s own experience in Georgia’s criminal justice system. Young Thug was arrested in 2022 as part of the high-profile YSL racketeering case and remained incarcerated until October 2024, when he entered a non-negotiated plea and was released.
The cookout provided a different look at the Atlanta superstar, with the focus shifting from music and entertainment to mentorship, community involvement and encouraging the next generation to make better choices.
