Hip-hop fans have plenty of new music to look forward to as New Music Friday arrives September 18, with established veterans and rising artists preparing to deliver new projects and records.
September has already brought releases from artists including EST Gee, Jhené Aiko, Hoodrich Pablo Juan and others, but this week’s lineup adds several anticipated projects to the month’s release calendar.
AZ Chike — No Rest For The Wicked
Los Angeles rapper AZ Chike is scheduled to release his new album No Rest For The Wicked on September 18. The project has generated attention in the lead-up to its release, including discussion surrounding his work with Kendrick Lamar. The album follows Chike’s continued rise within the West Coast hip-hop scene.
NoCap — Heaven On Mars
Alabama rapper NoCap is also scheduled to return with Heaven On Mars. The project is among the major hip-hop albums currently listed for a September 18 release, giving fans another full-length record to add to their weekend playlists.
Rakim, Kurupt & Masta Killa — The Godbody
Three hip-hop veterans are joining forces as Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa prepare to release their collaborative album The Godbody.
The project brings together East Coast and West Coast legends and is produced by Rakim and Nick Wiz. The guest list includes several notable names, including Snoop Dogg, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, KRS-One, Daz Dillinger, Kool G Rap, Buckshot, Kokane and Killa Sin.
The trio has already given listeners a preview of the project with records including “A Different Kind” and the recently released “Rock Ya Body,” which features Ghostface Killah, Daz Dillinger and Raekwon.
New Singles Are Arriving Too
The week leading into September 18 has also produced several notable songs. Future and Metro Boomin teamed up with Yung Lean for “That’s It,” while Travis Scott released “RHYNO.” Lil Uzi Vert also joined Kur for a remix of “Grab Your Popcorn.”
Other recent releases include Anderson .Paak and Cordae’s “A Good Day,” Joy Crookes and Denzel Curry’s “Painkiller,” and an unreleased Nipsey Hussle verse appearing on the “LA Theme Song” connected to FX’s The Drop: A Snowfall Saga.
With new projects from AZ Chike, NoCap and the veteran combination of Rakim, Kurupt and Masta Killa leading the way, September 18 is shaping up to be another busy New Music Friday for hip-hop listeners.
