Six States to Ban Junk Food from SNAP by 2026

0

Starting in 2026, six states — West Virginia, Florida, Colorado, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas — will restrict SNAP recipients from buying junk food, following a policy change approved by the USDA.

The move aims to encourage healthier eating and aligns with broader reforms to tighten food aid rules. Supporters say it’s about using public funds responsibly, while critics warn it could increase stigma and limit choice for low-income families.

SNAP currently supports over 42 million Americans, many of whom may soon face new limits at the grocery store.
