Atlanta HBCUs to begin spring semester with virtual instruction

Students at all three of Atlanta’s major historically Black colleges and universities will not be heading back to the classroom when classes begin in January.

Morehouse College, Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University announced on Friday that they would be undergoing virtual instruction throughout the majority of January.

This decision comes after a recent spike in COVID-19 cases across the state of Georgia.

Classes at all three HBCUs are scheduled to begin on January 12. In-person classes will resume on January 31, if conditions allow.

Residential move-in also being delayed. At Spelman and Clark Atlanta, students will be able to move in during the week of January 24. Morehouse has not yet announced a date for move-in.

All three HBCUs are also requiring students who qualify for a booster shot to have received it before coming back to campus. Other schools taking the same precautions. Emory University announced earlier this week that its students would also be learning virtually.
