Fulton County Schools has announced a new option for families wanting a mask-optional learning experience or remote learning.
School officials will expand learning options for families to include K-2 remote learning and a K-8 mask-optional hub.
Currently, students at Fulton County schools that are in areas of high transmission of COVID-19 will be required to wear masks.
The school district said the new option begins Sept. 7 and ends at the end of the first semester, but is subject to extension.
“Just know that we want to provide all the students the face-to-face options that they deserve as consistently as possible and we’re doing at this point a pivot so that we can hopefully to offer school for your children without interruption,” said Fulton County School Board Member Linda McCain.
Each option is limited: The K-8 Learning Hub at Crabapple Center is limited to 500 student and K-2 Remote Learning Program is limited to 300 students. The students will be chose based on a lottery.
The Learning Hub will operate at 10700 Crabapple Road in Roswell at a vacated middle school building. All students eligible for enrollment in a district elementary or middle schools may participate.
School officials said the Learning Hub option will operate as a choice program, so district transportation will not be provided unless required by an IEP.
Classes will be face-to-face in core curriculum but classes like health, P.E. and language classes will be virtual.
