Georgia hospitals nearing capacity as COVID-19 cases rise.

As the Delta variant of COVID-19 spreads across Georgia, metro Atlanta hospitals are filling up.

Doctors say the increase we’re seeing in cases is happening faster than previous spikes during the pandemic due to the highly contagious nature of the Delta variant.

Regions northwest of Atlanta, including Cobb and Cherokee counties, are running particularly low on hospital beds at 95% of their capacity.

The Georgia Coordinating Center tracks how busy hospitals across the state are.

On Friday, several major metro Atlanta hospitals were on diversion and unable to accept ambulances. A few were also on total ICU diversion and were not accepting new critical patients.

Several emergency departments were listed as “severely crowded.”
