NEIGHBORHOOD DIVIDED: WAS THIS AN OVER KILL OR NECESSARY SELF-DEFENSE?

Early Monday morning at 4AM, a Rockdale County homeowner shot and killed three masked teenagers after an exchange of gunfire on the homeowners lawn. The two brothers and their friend were allegedly approached the residence in White Oak Court and attempted to rob three people in the front yard. Two of the juveniles were 16 years old and one was 15 years old.

Ten emergency vehicles responded to the scene where authorities were called to investigate the shots fired. When deputies arrived they found the three young men on the ground and tried to revive two of them with first aid. The two were taken to the hospital where they both later died.

According to Sheriff Eric Levett:
“Upon our arrival, the decease was at the edge of a driveway and partially in the roadway,” he said. “The other young man was a little bit down the street, where it appears he was running.”

According to the Rockdale sheriff’s office, one of the attempted robbery suspects allegedly drew his gun and fired at the residents before the homeowner returned fire, according to the statement. The robbery victims were not injured in the shooting. The homeowner has yet to be identified publicly. The death of the teens has feelings in the Flat Shoals neighborhood divided.
