During an interview on “The View”, the designer-turned-movie director defended his decision to not dress America’s future First Lady, Melania Trump. His decision did not reflect his political views and his decision to vote for Hillary Clinton.
“Had Hillary won, she shouldn’t be wearing my clothes — they’re too expensive,” he clarified. “And I don’t mean that in a bad way. They’re not artificially expensive, it’s how much it costs to make these things. But I think to relate to everybody, you shouldn’t be necessarily wearing [expensive clothing].”
Ford is joining a long list of designers, including Diane von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Sophie Theallet, Derek Lam and Phillip Lim, who have opted against dressing Donald Trump’s wife.
