DMX, born Earl Simmons, has been behind bars since January 2018 and was hit with a one-year sentence in March for federal tax evasion. Simmons pleaded guilty in November 2017 to one count of tax fraud “for evading the payment of income taxes in the period from 2010 through 2016,” mainly by living off cash. In a statement, prosecutors said, “In total, during that time period, Simmons engaged in a scheme to conceal millions of dollars of income from the IRS and to avoid paying $1.7 million of tax liabilities.”
According to Vulture, the rapper will be released from prison tomorrow, which was obtained a statement from DMX’s lawyer regarding his imminent freedom. His original release date was set to be on January 27th, however, inmates in Federal Bureau Prisons are released early if their release date is on a weekend.
“He’s coming home tomorrow,” said lawyer Murray Richman. “I spoke to him; he’s very happy. He’s looking forward to being home. He’s never been hotter than now — people have been seeking him out all over. He’s terrific; he’s been terrific.”
The 48-year-old will be under supervision for three years once he’s officially processed. DMX has 15 kids in total, with the youngest being just 2 years old. Sources say that the rapper will release a new album once he’s released. Are you guys ready for the release?
