Kevin Durant clapped back at a younger basketball fan on Instagram.
The exchange of words began when the Instagram account @bucketscenter run by teenager Kalyb Champion posted a photo saying that KD was an elite player that doesn’t elevate his team the same way that LeBron James or Stephen Curry can.
Durant responded with a comment on the post saying, “Bruh go sweep ya dorm room, u don’t know hoops. Stop tagging me in this trash.”
While this could have been enough to get his point across, the tirade did not end there. Durant would hit up Champion in his Instagram DMs to call him a “middle school/knock off Stephen A. [Smith].” The two went back and forth for a few messages with Champion ultimately trying to provide a sound reasoning for why he posted the photo in the first place. Still, the Slim Reaper wasn’t having any of it and told Champion his opinion did not matter and was biased after repeatedly apologizing for his previous insults.
Champion attempted to take the high road and closed out the exchange by saying, “You’re entitled to your opinion and I’m entitled to mine. Going to use your comments as motivation to become a professional basketball analyst on a big time network and hope you can use mine as motivation to prove doubters like me wrong.”
Despite the debate not going too far off the rails, it is still very evident that the two-time NBA champion keeps a keen eye on what is being said about him on social media. Unfortunately for him, the opinions have not always been the most positive since his decision to bounce from the Oklahoma City Thunder and join the Golden State Warriors in 2016. At least this time he didn’t hide behind his burner account to address the issue.
