A veteran set himself on fire outside the state Capitol in downtown Atlanta early Tuesday, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The agency told Channel 2 Action News, “A male suspect was having a personal protest outside the Capitol. He had gasoline and fireworks.”
Several loud explosions were heard around 10:30 a.m.
“The male was burned extensively and has been transported, as a trooper put him out with his fire extinguisher.”
Officials are still looking for potential additional threats and roads around the Capitol are closed until further notice.
