A Chicago mother is heartbroken and demanding answers as to why her 10-year-old son, Michael Thomas Jr., was handcuffed by police outside of his grandmother’s home. The poor baby was so frightened that he peed on himself. The mother of the young boy, Starr Ramsey, asked NBC Chicago to publish it to show the world what happened to her son.
Ramsey says her son is scarred for life by the tormenting moment. Huffington Post reports Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson is defending the officers that were caught on camera handcuffing the young boy.
Johnson stated in a news conference that the officers followed all of the “rules and protocols,” Johnson also said that he’s not “concerned about that at all.”
CPD says they were investigating multiple reports of a teenager who had been seen with a gun and said Michael fit the description. The officers also said he ran when they approached and that it was “hard” for them to immediately determine someone’s age. Ramsey isn’t buying the officers’ story, she says you can tell he’s no teenager and wants to know why her son was detained for 15 minutes.
Police are investigating the situation to ensure that everything is being handled properly.
