Oklahoma City Thunder play-by-play announcer Brian Davis came under fire on social media for a remark he made about Russell Westbrook during the Thunder’s season finale on Wednesday.
Coming into Wednesday’s game, the 2017 MVP was only 16 rebounds shy from averaging a triple-double for the second year in a row. Last season, Westbrook became the second player in NBA history to pull off the feat.
“Anytime when you have a guard like that who can come back and rebound the way that he does,” Carmelo Anthony explained, referring to Westbrook’s enthusiasm to take in rebounds on Tuesday. “When he gets [the ball] off the rebound he’s able to jump-start the break and a lot of good things happen from that.”
With only 48 minutes left in the regular season to pull off the accomplishment, Westbrook played with extra zeal. However, following a three-pointer by guard Terrance Ferguson after a steal by Westbrook, Davis said, “Westbrook is out of his cotton pickin’ mind’.”
