Facebook has decided to remove over 135 accounts and 138 pages that have been identified as being run by “Russian Intelligence”. The accounts are believed to be in connection to a Russian company that was investigated for alleged interference in the 2016 Presidential election.
Sources say the Internet Research Agency created fake network of pages and accounts on social media to influence the masses and spread propaganda.
As a precaution 70 Facebook pages and 65 Instagram accounts that were reported to be targeting Russian audiences have been banned.
Facebook has gone on record to say that this has been due to those pages alleged association with the IRA not the content on those pages.
